Privacy
Summit Courier has no accounts, asks for no email address and uses no analytics services and no tracking cookies. Its public reading pages carry one labelled banner ad from adengine.us, described under Advertising (the ad tag also counts one page view per page, as a daily total); desk and dossier pages load nothing from other sites. Most public pages set no cookie. Pages that carry a form that changes something (the desk pages, and the dossier button on each community page) set one short-lived security cookie, described below; it holds no personal information and is not used for tracking.
Desks and dossiers
A desk is stored as its name, the communities, issuers and words you picked, and the dates it was made and last opened. Its private link is not stored: only a one-way fingerprint of it, so we cannot recover a lost link for you. Anyone who has the link can open, change or delete the desk, so keep it private. A desk unopened for 400 days is deleted. A dossier stores only its community and its expiry, and is deleted when it expires.
Forms and limits
Forms use a short-lived security cookie (named __Host-sc_csrf, kept for up to 24 hours) to stop forged submissions. To limit abuse, the number of desks and dossiers made from one connection each day is counted under a salted fingerprint of the address, not the address itself, and these counts are deleted after two days. The web server keeps ordinary access logs for a short time for security.
Advertising
The front page, the Record, the Meetings Ledger, the community and county pages, daily editions, sources, pricing and about show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC’s own services; no government body or news outlet pays for them, and they never change what the Courier files or how it ranks anything. Desks, dossiers, Record searches, this page and the terms never show an ad, and the ad is left out when a page is printed. (Added 17 October 2026; pages renamed for the Summit County record on 27 October 2026.)
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your IP address and your browser type with those requests. The requests name this site; they never carry the address of the page you are on.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine uses no cookies at all, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your IP address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your IP address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC’s own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (IP address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
Payments
During the preview nothing is charged and no payment details are collected. When checkout is switched on, payment happens at PayPal; Summit Courier will receive only the subscription or order reference, never card details.
